Really wish I would have worked on fake fur projects this winter, however – still no trace of snow here! So hopefully today’s DIY knit idea will make it for most of you… Upcycling tipps with old pullovers are endless. I had to notice that one of my previous purchase has never been worn. On the front, the fabric had some holes. Handmade in Italy, premium merino quality… Still don’t know what happened!!
So basically, only the sleeves were okay. The result of this DIY knit tutorial?
One top on which knit sleeves play the main role, with gold buttons details on each side. You can bow the sleeves in the back…
Or simply wrap them into your pants! This is a nice ‘two materials hoodie’, jersey and knit, for work with a shirt, and just for a lazy weekend.
Wearing my new Nudie Jeans, a conscious and responsible denim brand that I also went to visit in Berlin last month. A striped shirt and hoodie by Monoprix France (find similar here by Dion Lee, I love the technical shapes and the spirit of this brand). The boots are from MM6 Martin Margiela. Bit shiny, the heels? Love them!.
Here is the tutorial. For this upcycling DIY knit on a low budget, you need:
– one old pullover (not too thick)
– one hoodie, both garments in the SAME color please!
– scissors, needles, thread
– 6 buttons and some light bias to cover the hem
– sewing machine.
Step 1. Put the pullover upside down on the table, flat the sleeves. Pin the bias directly on the sleeve, slightly oblique, like on the picture. Pay attention to the way the biais is placed! Then stitch it along the right side, two times (go and back).
This is what you should get:
Step 2. Fold the bias to cover the hem to prepare the next and last sewing stitch.
After stitching, this is what you should get:
Upside down the sleeve to its right side, and place each sleeve on both sides of the hoodie.
From there I used to work by hand, that way the stitches are discrete.
Finally sew three buttons on each side, we’re done!
Bye bye old knit. In case you’re wondering: Men pullovers are best, well – most of the time ; )
I wish you a very nice day, à bientôt!
